The Barbican will host the London transfer of Black Watch, the National Theatre of Scotland show which was a huge success at last year’s Edinburgh Festival, in June 2008.
The production has toured Scotland to widespread critical acclaim, but has not yet been seen south of the border. The play, which won several awards at the Festival, including a Herald Angel and a Fringe First, follows the journey of a group of soldiers in the legendary Scottish Black Watch regiment as they are thrown into the conflict in Iraq. Writer Gregory Burke interviewed former soldiers and based the play on those conversations.
Directed by John Tiffany with movement direction by Steven Hogget of Frantic Assembly and musical direction by Davey Anderson, the play stops at the Barbican as part of a world tour. Tickets will be on sale later this year.
