The musical furniture hit of this year’s Edinburgh Festival, The Table, is to play a limited 12 performance season at the Tricycle. The piece, devised and performed by Polish company Karbido Crew, opens at the Kilburn venue on 5 November and runs until 14 November.
The star of this inventively harmonic production is, in fact, a tuneful table, which is played using sticks, bows, knives and a mixing desk by musicians/performers Pawel Czepulkowski, Igor Gawlikowski, Michal Litwiniec and Jacek Fedorowicz.
The one-of-a kind piece of furniture, which it is probably inadvisable to eat your dinner off, is described by the company as: “a wooden instrument with exceptional and unique acoustic properties. It’s a piece of furniture with soul, sensitive to the slightest touch and uniquely resonating.”
In addition to Edinburgh success, The Table won the Toucan Award – the top prize for the best off-stream performance – at Poland’s 27th Actor’s Song Festival.
The Table is followed at the Tricycle this autumn/winter by comedy from Francesca Martinez and Jason Byrne, and John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Doubt: A Parable. Ron Hutchinson’s comedy based around the filming of Gone With The Wind, Moonlight And Magnolias, plays at the Tricycle until 3 November.
