The autumn/winter season at the Gate has been announced. The first under new Artistic Directors Natalie Abrahami and Carrie Cracknell, it is a truly international affair, following the foundations laid by former Artistic Director Thea Sharrock. It includes work by Swiss playwright Lukas Bärfuss, Spanish playwright Fernando Arrabal and a new international dance theatre collaboration.
Bärfuss's The Sexual Neuroses Of Our Parents opens the season, running from 31 August-29 September. The play follows Dora, who, when her parents take her off tranquilisers, has a sexual awakening more potent than they could have imagined.
Bärfuss's work, for which he has won many awards, has been seen across the globe, though this production, directed by Cracknell, will mark his UK debut.
The Car Cemetery is staged between 1 November and 1 December to mark Arrabal's 75th birthday. Abrahami directs the show which tells of a car junkyard on the edge of the Earth, where society’s outcasts party like there is no tomorrow.
Arrabal has published over 100 plays in his career, along with novels, poetry and essays, winning awards across Europe and the world.
The season is concluded by dance theatre collaboration I Am Falling, which runs from 4 January- 2 February 2008, and explores the realities of an aging body and an agile mind.
