Stage and screen star Stanley Townsend, most recently seen in the hit BBC crime drama The Shadow Line, is to join Antony Sher and Tara Fitzgerald in the Tricycle revival and West End transfer of Broken Glass.
Caroline Loncq, Brian Protheroe and Suzan Sylvester complete the cast of Arthur Miller’s tale which was highly acclaimed when first staged at the Tricycle theatre last year. It is being revived at the Kilburn venue between 10 August and 10 September before transferring to the Vaudeville theatre from 14 September.
Townsend, who played crime boss Bulkat Babur in recent TV series The Shadow Line, which also starred Sher, is a London stage regular with a host of credits at venues including the National Theatre, Royal Court and Old Vic.
He joins the company as Dr Harry Hayman, as psychiatrist called in to help Sylvia Gellberg, a Jewish New Yorker, recover from her reaction to the events of Kristallnacht. Their conversations, however, expose underlying issues in the relationship between Sylvia and her husband Phillip (Sher).
Loncq, whose credits include Love’s Labour’s Lost and The Comedy Of Errors for the Royal Shakespeare Company, plays Margaret Hyman, with Protheroe, whose London stage credits include The Lord Of The Rings and The Iceman Cometh, reprising his previous Tricycle theatre performance as Stanton Case. Sylvester, who won the Olivier Award for Best Newcomer in 1987 for her performance in the National Theatre production of Miller’s A View From The Bridge, joins the cast as Harriet.
