Young Vic’s Death Of A Salesman gets West End transfer

Never has the phrase “by popular demand” rung so true. The Young Vic‘s massively acclaimed – but wholly sold-out – production of Death Of A Salesman will transfer to the West End this autumn, along with co-stars Wendell Pierce and Sharon D. Clarke.

Co-directed by the award-winning Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell, the stunning production of the Arthur Miller classic will play at the Piccadilly Theatre from 24 October 2019 to 4 January 2020.

And it’s good news all round for those who’ve missed out at the Young Vic, as Wendell (The Wire and Suits) and Sharon (an Olivier Award winner at this year’s ceremony) will reprise their leading roles as Willy and Linda Loman respectively. Full casting will be announced at a later date.

There’ll be plenty of opportunities to purchase Death Of A Salesman tickets in the West End: 200 will be available for £15 at each performance. Tickets go on general sale on 13 June.

Arthur Miller’s influential play, which has won three Tony Awards for Best Revival in its history, centres on a travelling salesman, Willy, who struggles to rise above a life of mediocrity, and whose memories of missed opportunities form the fulcrum of the story. This production brings a unique vision to the show, told through the eyes of an African-American family.

Along with Marianne and Miranda, the creative team also comprises designer Anna Fleischle, lighting designer Aideen Malone, sound designer Carolyn Downing, composer and musical director Femi Temowo (with additional movement support by Yarit Dor), and casting director Charlotte Sutton CDG.

Death Of A Salesman is set to conclude its run at the Young Vic on 13 July, having already extended by a fortnight.
