The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse holds the most psychologically acute of Shakespeare’s renowned late romantic quartet Cymbeline, presenting an unsettling but moving experience.
In the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse’s uniquely intimate setting, Sam Yates (named a 2014 Rising Star by The Observer) directs the politically charged story of the virtuous Innogen, daughter of King Cymbeline, whose marriage to Posthumus displeases her father. Cast into exile, Posthumus lays a wager on her fidelity with Iachimo.
But with Innogen travelling from England to Wales disguised as a boy in search of her husband, to what depths will Iachimo go to prove her unfaithful – and will Posthumus be consumed with jealousy?
Starring Emily Barber as Innogen and Jonjo O’Neill as Posthumus, Cymbeline finds a new home amidst the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse’s candlelit ambience.
