The Peacock Theatre hosts a unique production crafted by English National Ballet Associate Artist George Williamson, with My First Ballet: Sleeping Beauty the perfect introduction to the beauty of ballet for all members of the family.
Telling the tale of the titular character, Princess Aurora, who is cursed to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die, her life is saved by her godmother, the Lilac Fairy, who manages to tamper with the curse.
Falling into a 100-year sleep instead, she is to be awoken by true love’s kiss, resulting in a story packed with spectacular moments which second-year students from the English National Ballet School here bring alive on stage.
With a narrator present to help young audiences keep track of the story, and with an abbreviated score featuring the very best of Tchaikovsky’s iconic music, Sleeping Beauty tells the classic fairytale in an accessible and expressive manner that showcases ballet to young audiences and their families perfectly.
