The bill starts with a showpiece, the third-act divertissements from Bournonville’s Napoli. The exuberant celebrations at a wedding provide the perfect occasion to enjoy the swift and delicate elegance of Bournonville’s style and The Royal Ballet’s rich dance talent.

And Bournonville’s style is evident in the second half of this bill, with the return of the hugely successful production by Johan Kobborg of the ballet classic, La Sylphide, new last season. Good and evil intertwine with fated young love in a story full of bittersweet allure. James spurns his bride-to-be to pursue the love of the beautiful, other-worldly sylph of the title. But when a witch causes the sylph to lose her wings and thus her life, James is left utterly alone.
