Forty-five years after William Peter Blatty’s best-selling novel terrified an entire generation, The Exorcist has been unleashed onto the West End stage for the very first time in a uniquely theatrical experience directed by Sean Mathias and adapted for the stage by John Pielmeier.

Jenny Seagrove plays Chris MacNeil opposite Peter Bowles as Father Lankester Merrin, Adam Garcia as Father Damien Karras, Clare Louise Connolly as Regan, Todd Boyce as Doctor Strong, Mitchell Mullen as Doctor Klein, Elliot Harper as Father Joe and Tristram Wymark as Burke. Legendary actor Ian McKellen lends his voice to The Exorcist’s Demon.

Widely considered one of the scariest movies of all time, the global controversy generated by The Exorcist film upon its 1973 release ensured it went on to become one of the top ten highest grossing movies of all time, claiming two Academy Awards.

Directed by legendary filmmaker William Friedkin, the movie collected the awards for Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The book was adapted for television in 2016 by 20th Century Fox.

The Exorcist director Sean Mathis’ most recent West End production was 2016’s No Man’s Land at Wyndham’s Theatre, a production he originally directed on Broadway. The play starred Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.
