Bad Jews will continue to wreak havoc in the West End through to July after adding an additional six weeks to its already hugely successful run at the Arts Theatre.
Joshua Harmon’s critically acclaimed comedy, which started its London life at the St James Theatre earlier this year, will now play at the Leicester Square venue until 11 July, having previously been booking until the end of this month.
Directed by Michael Longhurst, Bad Jews charts the story of family members fighting it out for a treasured heirloom left behind by their beloved Holocaust-surviving grandfather.
As the quartet of personalities – the bossy, overbearing Daphna, her wealthy cousin Liam, his indifferent brother Jonah and Liam’s non-Jewish girlfriend Melody – gather in a cramped Manhattan apartment on the night after the funeral, a viciously hilarious brawl about family, faith and legacy ensues.
The production, which opened at the St James Theatre in January before transferring to the Arts Theatre in March, received a string of four-star reviews, with Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall describing it as “A knockout”.
UK Theatre Award winner Jenna Augen will continue in the role of Daphna alongside her follow cast members Gina Bramhill, Joe Coen and Ilan Goodman as her on-stage opponents.
News of the production’s extension follows the announcement that Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing has cancelled its Arts Theatre run. Bad Jews will now be followed into the venue by Green Day-inspired hit American Idiot – The Musical, which begins previewing on 17 July.
