Bloomsbury hosts Tom’s Midnight Garden

Birmingham Stage Company will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a new production of its popular adaptation of Tom’s Midnight Garden at the Bloomsbury theatre this Christmas.

Adapted by David Wood, the children’s playwright behind many successful adaptations including the West End’s current children’s show The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Tom’s Midnight Garden will play from 12 December to 19 January and is suitable for everyone aged four and older, offering families an alternative to the traditional festive panto.

Written by Phillipa Pearce in 1958, the classic story tells of a young boy who journeys back in time to a secret garden from the past when the grandfather clock unexpectedly strikes 13 times. There Tom meets Hatty and together the two new friends enjoy fantastic adventures. But with each new journey through time, strange things begin to happen and Tom is forced to solve the mystery of the midnight garden.

Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Neal Foster, Birmingham Stage Company is acclaimed for its family-friendly adaptations of classic children’s books by authors such as Roald Dahl, Michael Morpurgo and Rudyard Kipling, as well as its hugely successful series of Horrible Histories stage adaptations including this summer’s Barmy Britain, which is currently playing at the Garrick theatre.
