Hedda, Lucy Kirkwood’s adaptation of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, which is currently playing at the Gate theatre, has extended its run due to demand for tickets.

The drama, which was due to close on 27 September, will now run until 4 October.

Hedda, which opened at the Notting Hill venue in August, follows the title character, who returns home from a six month honeymoon with a man she no longer loves. Still mourning the father she adored, the only way she can find passion and excitement is through the wilful damage of others. Trapped, dangerous and caught between the three men in her life, something in the end must give…

Hedda’s cast includes Adrian Bower, best known for his roles on television’s Teachers and in Elling in the West End, Tom Mison, who can currently be seen playing Mr Bingley in Lost In Austen, Cara Horgan, Christopher Obi, Alice Patten and Cath Whitefield.

The success of Hedda adds to a strong year for young playwright Kirkwood, whose original piece Tinderbox played at the Bush theatre this spring.
