Boundary-pushing director Rupert Goold is to explore the legacy of 9/11 in a new theatrical production staged at St Katharine Docks this September, 10 years after the tragedy.
Decade, produced by Goold’s Headlong theatre company and Chichester Festival Theatre, is a collaboration between a team of major writers – yet to be announced – who will examine our responses to the devastating moment on 11 September 2001 when the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Centre fell to the ground.
The production will turn a disused office building in St Katharine Docks – the former site of London’s World Trade Centre – into an immersive theatrical experience, taking audiences from the tranquil setting of the River Thames to downtown Manhattan and beyond.
Goold is well known for his innovative directorial style which he has applied to productions including the multi-award-winning Enron, Mike Bartlett’s Earthquakes In London and Six Characters In Search Of An Author. The two-times Olivier Award winner has also directed acclaimed productions of Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Macbeth, while his Las Vegas-set version of The Merchant Of Venice is currently playing at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
