Half Moon plans February Family Fun

First Published 6 February 2014, Last Updated 20 February 2014

East London’s family venue the Half Moon Young People’s Theatre will hold its first ever Family Fun Day later this month with a wide range of free activities on offer.

The jam-packed day will take place at the end of half term on 22 February from 10:00 to 16:00 and celebrate the theatre’s recent refurbishment.

As well as art workshops, a free exhibition, face painting and exclusive book reading from the multi-award-winning Chris Riddell (Goth Girl and Ottoline And The Yellow Cat), Half Moon’s experienced drama facilitators will be offering drama workshops throughout the day for budding young actors.

Split into two age groups, four to seven-year-olds can attend two classes from 10:00 to 10:45 and 12:00 to 12:45, while older kids aged eight to 11 can join in the fun from 14:00 to 14:45.

If backstage activities are more up your family’s street, the Half Moon’s Polly Thorpe will be running puppet-making workshops at 12:00 and 15:00 designed for children aged between three and 11-years-old. Places for both the drama and puppetry workshops are free and do not need to be booked in advance.

Adding to the fun will be two performances of Nice (11:00 and 14:00), a new play by the award-winning puppetry theatre company Folded Feather. Suitable for everyone aged four and older, the story of hope, friendship and endless possibilities of the imagination will feature live animation and music.
