McQueen shortens West End run

First Published 2 October 2015, Last Updated 2 October 2015

McQueen will end its West End run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 17 October, three weeks earlier than originally planned.

The Alexander McQueen fictional biopic transferred to the West End following its world premiere at the St James Theatre earlier this year.

The producers today released a statement explaining its early closure, saying: “McQueen will close at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Saturday 17 October. This allows another show to open at that theatre, which seemed the right thing to do and made commercial sense.

“The producers of McQueen, which began life at St James Theatre on 12 May, are in preliminary discussions for a New York production next year and a DVD of the London production will be released in November.”

Described as a “haunting voyage” into the mind of the legendary late fashion designer, James Phillips’ story imagines events when a mysterious girl breaks into his home to steal one of his magnificent creations. But this is no ordinary burglar and instead of calling the police, McQueen decides instead to take his devoted fan on a journey through London and into the whirlwind of his life.

The West End production saw the critically acclaimed Stephen Wight reprise his role as the title character alongside Carly Bawden, who took over the role of Dahlia from Glee star Dianna Agron.
