Sanjeev Bhaskar will lead the cast of Anthony Horowitz’s new play Dinner With Saddam when it receives its world premiere at the Menier Chocolate Factory in September.

The play, which imagines what would happen if Saddam Hussein turns up on your doorstep and announces he’s staying for dinner, will play at the London Bridge venue from 10 September (press night 22 September) to 14 November.

The Kumars At No. 42 and Goodness Gracious Me star Bhaskar, whose stage credits include Spamalot in the West End and Dumb Show at the Rose Theatre Kingston, will be joined in the cast by Nathan Amzi, Ilan Goodman and Rebecca Grant, with further casting still to be announced.

Former The Voice UK star Amzi will take to the stage following recent musical roles in West End hits Urinetown The Musical and Rock Of Ages. Goodman has just completed the hugely successful run of acclaimed comedy Bad Jews at the Arts Theatre, while Prisoners’ Wives actress Grant was last seen on the London stage in Seminar at the Hampstead Theatre.

Lindsay Posner returns to direct the dictator-inspired drama following his recent production of Communicating Doors at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Written by Alex Rider author Horowitz, the play follows the dinner party scenario as political and personal issues top the menu. But behind the kitchen door something else far more sinister is cooking…

Dinner With Saddam will open at the venue following the current run of What’s It All About? Bacharach Reimagined, a dynamic 90-minute musical journey through Burt Bacharach’s classic melodies, which closes on 5 September.
