See White at Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival

Published 2 December 2011

The Southbank Centre’s annual Winter Festival is now in full swing with children’s show White and dance show Murmurs joining the previously announced Slava’s Snowshow.

Theatre Company Catherine Wheels’ White plays from 17 to 31 December. In the sparkling world of White, everything is ordered and…well, white. But high up in the trees, all is not white. Colour appears and now all anyone can think about is red, yellow and blue. The playful show is suitable for children aged two to four.

From 20 December to 2 January, Murmurs plays the venue’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. A follow-up to the critically acclaimed Aurélia’s Oratorio, Murmurs is directed by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin, and stars her own daughter Aurélia Thierrée.

The spellbinding show tells of a whirling romance, city confusion, undersea encounters and dining-room debacles. Told through a blend of theatre, illusion and dance, the magical production sees Thierrée fleeing from reality as her life is packed into cardboard boxes.

Suitable for children aged eight and over, Murmurs uses Thierrée’s unique style and imagination to change everyday actions into a spectacle of the strange and the beautiful.

For something slightly sillier, The Haharmonics Clown Choir will be at the venue from 20 to 22 December to help audiences create their very own clown characters. Using music, movement and singing, the whole family can take part in an afternoon of clowning led by renowned clown Angela De Castro, vocal specialist Laka Dasical and movement specialist Barry Grantham.
