Nabucco is a monumental tale of religious difference and nationalism. Originally set in around 600BC, it tells the story of the Babylonian ruler who conquered and destroyed Jerusalem, enslaving the Jews and sending them into exile. However, this story is still as applicable today, more than 2000 years later, echoing continuing troubles throughout the world.

This hugely exciting opera shot Verdi to international fame and is known for its deeply moving choruses – particularly the Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves. Verdi turns up tune after tune in this opera and you can see the source of many of his later works in this piece.

Performances will be sung in English, using the David Pountney translation with full orchestra and chorus.
