In Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes spends his days bored and frustrated. Dr Watson has moved away to enjoy suburban married bliss. The famous violin lies untouched amid the memorabilia of an illustrious career. But for a man of Holmes’ forensic genius contemporary crime feels drab and commonplace. He takes out his needle and prepares a solution of cocaine – his last little comfort.
But when a young woman arrives on his doorstep, all this is about to change. In fear of her life, she cannot approach the police, she tells Holmes, claiming she is being pursued by a supernatural enemy. He is her only chance. Holmes senses that at last this is a mystery worthy of further attention and so begins a tale of intrigue and deception, which will end with a terrifying final scene on the stage of the Athenaeum Theatre in The Strand.Sherlock Holmes: The Athenaeum Ghoul
